The Portland Trail Blazers have long refused to part ways with their star-studded duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. But in the midst of a disastrous season the organization is now desperate, and the Pelicans are trying to take advantage.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Blazers and Pelicans are discussing a blockbuster trade involving McCollum. It's unclear what players New Orleans is willing to give up.
"The Portland Trail Blazers and New Orleans Pelicans are in serious discussions on a trade centered on guard CJ McCollum, sources tell ESPN. Talks are ongoing today," Woj reports.
NBA insider Shams Charania has chimed in and it appears the deal is close to being finalized.
The Pelicans are reportedly sending Josh Hart and draft compensation to Portland in exchange for McCollum.
The Pelicans have long been seeking out a veteran star to pair with a team full of young potential. It appears they've got their guy.
The Trail Blazers, meanwhile, are entering full rebuild mode. Will Damian Lillard land on the trade block ahead of the deadline?
It's hard to imagine Dame wants to stick it out in Portland through an entire rebuild. Why would he? He's one of the best players in the NBA when healthy. And he's given Portland plenty of time to try and build a championship team. That ship has sailed.
McCollum appears to be on his way to New Orleans.
