The Cleveland Browns are set at quarterback for this upcoming season, but it never hurts to add some depth at the most important position in the sport.

According to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the Browns are expected to sign veteran quarterback Nick Mullens to their practice squad after their 53-man roster is set later today.

Mullens was released by the Philadelphia Eagles immediately acquired Gardner Minshew in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. It didn't take him very long to find a new home in the NFL.

Cleveland won't need to promote Mullens to its 53-man roster unless Baker Mayfield or Case Keenum gets hurt this season. In the event that does happen, Mullens should be ready for action.

Mullens stepped in for Jimmy Garoppolo several times over the course of his career with the San Francisco 49ers. He's not very consistent, but he can get the job done from time to time.

Though he was undrafted out of Southern Miss, Mullens received a lot of playing time in San Francisco from 2018-2020. In 19 appearances for the 49ers, he had 4,714 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 22 interceptions.

It's also worth noting that Mullens is just 26 years old. He could develop into a reliable backup in Kevin Stefanski's system.
