Legendary College Football Coach Dead At 66
On Tuesday night, a legendary college football coach passed away from injuries he suffered in an accident in March.
The Dartmouth football program announced longtime head coach Buddy Teevens died today from injuries he suffered when he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in March. He was 66 years old.
The Teevens family issued a statement following his passing:
“Our family is heartbroken to inform you that our beloved ‘coach’ has peacefully passed away surrounded by family. Unfortunately, the injuries he sustained proved too challenging for even him to overcome.
Throughout this journey, we consistently relayed the thoughts, memories, and love sent his way. Your kindness and letters of encouragement did not go unnoticed and were greatly appreciated by both Buddy and our family.
We are confident and take comfort in the fact that he passed away knowing how much he was loved and admired.”
Teevens, a former quarterback for Dartmouth, took over as head coach of the program in 2005. He also ran the Dartmouth program from 1987-91.
During his illustrious career, Teevens racked up a 117-101-2 record for the Big Green with five Ivy League titles. Teevens had three other head coaching stints as well: Maine (1985-86), Tulane (1992-96) and Stanford (2002-04).
Our thoughts are with the Teevens family.
