Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo Clarifies His Game 7 Retirement Threat
Chris "Mad Dog" Russo got a lot of people interested in the outcome of Game 7 of the NLCS between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Philadelphia Phillies when he wagered his broadcast career on the outcome. But he appears to have backtracked.
Ahead of Game 6, Russo pledged that he would retire "on the spot" if Arizona won the series after falling into a 3-2 hole. The D'backs won Game 6, prompting Russo to clear up what he meant.
Appearing on Mad Dog Radio, Russo clarified that he would only retire from Sirius XM radio if the Diamondbacks won the series. But he would not leave ESPN and his regular spot on First Take with Stephen A. Smith.
Russo also noted that he had to change the wager from his initial position of skipping the season-opening basketball game at UConn with his son. He said that he just had to change from that one otherwise he'd be a wreck.
As much as this appears to be a massive backtrack on his part, Chris Russo would be an absolute legend if he truly retired on the spot in the event the Diamondbacks reach the World Series.
But the Diamondbacks have to actually win the game first before this becomes a relevant point of discussion.
Will Russo stay true to his word?
