Contract Offer 'Back On Table' For Saquon Barkley
Giants running back Saquon Barkley would love to continue playing in New York, but he also wants to be compensated fairly. He made that clear last weekend at his youth camp.
“It’s all about respect,” Barkley said. “It’s misleading for sure. I think I’ve came out and said that I wanted to be a Giant for life. I’ve came out and said I’m not trying to reset the running back market. For those reports to come out and try to make me look like I’m greedy or whatever, that’s not even close to being the truth."
Well, it sounds like there's still a scenario in play where Barkley signs a long-term deal before Week 1.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, an offer the Giants made to Barkley earlier this year is back on the table.
"The two sides have had conversations," Rapoport said, via CBS Sports. "A deal that the Giants pulled off the table right before they did Daniel Jones' deal is now back on the table. The fact that they have had conversations and are (still) talking is good news."
Barkley is coming off a season where he had 1,312 rushing yards and 338 receiving yards. The G-Men know just how vital he is to their offense.
The Giants have until July 17 to sign Barkley to a long-term contract.
