College basketball icon Dick Vitale has long been opposed to the NCAA transfer portal. After the massive number of players who entered it recently, he believes that college hoops needs a commissioner - and he knows exactly who it should be.

Taking to X on Friday, Vitale decried the "over 800" players who have entered the transfer portal since Monday. He believes the rules are "absurd" and that the sport needs its own commissioner - namely, former Duke head coach Mike "Coach K" Krzyzewski.

"I can’t believe that they have started the transfer portal during the start of MARCH MADNESS- who makes these ABSURD RULES? Basketball needs a Commissioner ala COACH K ! Over 800 in portal since Monday ! Total CHAOS exists," Vitale wrote.

Dickie V found no shortage of support in his comments, with many agreeing that the transfer portal has been a negative for college basketball.

"100% correct! It's completely insane and out of control. It was awful for the players with all the restrictions, and I'm happy to see the players get some freedom. But it's gone much too far. There need to be some limits, and it can't be happening when teams are still playing," one user declared.

"It’s ruining the game. Even though my Illini have benefited well from the portal as an avid fan for 35+ years it’s just soiling the game. One guys opinion and I’m sure many will disagree," wrote another.

"I agree completely. The NCAA needs to LEAD! This is unsustainable," a third declared.

A commissioner of college basketball would certainly address a lot of problems, but might create a lot more too. Though if such a position were made, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more qualified candidate than Coach K.
