Football World Reacts To Death Of Former Ohio State Star
Former Ohio State wide receiver Dimitrious Stanley has passed away after a four-year battle with prostate cancer, per multiple reports on Thursday morning.
He was 48 years old.
"It is with great sadness that I report that Cardinal Great Dimitrious Stanley has gone home to be with our Lord. Please pray for Jessica and his little girl Dakota. Rest in Peace my friend," Michael Picetti announced on Twitter.
The football world is saddened by this tragic news of Stanley's passing.
"RIP to former Buckeye Great Dimitrious Stanley. Not only was Dimitrious a great Buckeye he was a great man husband and father. Please keep his family in your prayers. Sad day," one wrote.
"R.I.P. Dimitrious Stanley. Thank you for such fond memories. You will be missed," another added.
"RIP dimitrious Stanley, tough loss for buckeye nation," another said.
Those close to Stanley are sharing tributes for their beloved friend.
"My heart is shattered. Best friend/brother Dimitrious Stanley has passed after an incredibly courageous battle against prostate cancer. There will never be another like him. I am forever grateful for being gifted this guy into my life," Anthony Rothman wrote.
"As many of you are hearing my friend, co-worker & fmr Buckeye Dimitrious Stanley has passed away after a battle with prostate cancer. I’ll always remember his Rose Bowl TD catch, the way he made me laugh & his sign off on our Football Fever shows, 'take care & give care,'" Clay Hall said.
Stanley suited up for the Buckeyes from 1993-96. In his final season, he reeled in 43 catches for 829 yards and eight touchdowns. He famously recorded a 72-yard touchdown catch to win the Rose Bowl in 1997.
