LIV Golf participants have been banned from playing in PGA Tour events. But, these players will be allowed to play in independent events.

Most importantly, golf's four major tournaments.

On Wednesday, the PGA of America announced its eligibility requirements for the 2023 PGA Championship. The tournament will allow eligible LIV golfers to join the ranks, despite initial discussions about a prohibition for the PGA Tour defectors.

The golf world took to Twitter to react to this news.

"Gonna be great to watch all these dudes get washed," one fan wrote.

"Doesn’t matter they are not winning one! That’s why they went to LIV in the first place!" another said.

"As they should be. I hope DJ or Cam wins a couple of them," another added.

“Our decisions are always based on what’s in the best interest of the PGA of America and conducting the best championship possible,” PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh said in a press release, per Golf Digest. “Sadly the current division in the professional game is not good for the sport or the future of the game. We hope there might be some resolution soon. In the meantime, as always, our focus will be on our mission to grow the game and improve the lives of our members, who work so hard to impact millions of lives every day.”

The PGA Championship was the most likely major to bar LIV golfers given its connection with the PGA Tour and the PGA of America. But with Wednesday's ruling, all four majors are now open to the Saudi-backed players.

Past PGA Championship winners — ie. LIV Golf's Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and Martin Kaymer — are automatically eligible for the event.
