Report: Clippers Will Be "Aggressive" In Pursuit Of Kawhi Leonard
The 2018 NBA Draft is nearly here. Within the next 36 hours, the top college basketball players and stars from overseas will join Adam Silver on stage and graduate to the NBA.
There are several massive storylines heading into the draft. The biggest of which is the possibility that Kawhi Leonard is traded.
Late last week Leonard's camp leaked that the San Antonio Spurs star wants out of San Antonio. After missing the majority of the 2017-18 season with a quad injury, Leonard's relationship with the Spurs has reportedly soured.
On Tuesday night it was reported that Leonard finally met with Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich in San Diego after weeks of the 2014 Finals MVP dodging Popovich's request for a meeting (according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN).
It would be a bit rash for the Spurs to trade Leonard right after the meeting with Pop, especially when the meeting was described as "good." More conversations are expected to take place as well, according to local San Antonio reporter Jabari Young.
However, the Los Angeles Clippers and Jerry West will do everything possible to pry Leonard away from the Spurs. According to Kelly Iko of USA Today, West plans to be "aggressive" in his pursuit of Kawhi.
Leonard is widely regarded as the best two-way player in the NBA when healthy, and will likely fetch a hefty sum in return for the Spurs - despite being on a one-year deal.
Will the Spurs trade Leonard just two days after his meeting with Popovich? We'd have to know what was said in the meeting, but perhaps the relationship is too far gone for the two sides to make amends.
Multiple teams have expressed interest in trading for Leonard have high picks that could be sent to San Antonio. The draft is set to begin on Thursday night.
Stay tuned.
