We've officially entered the 24-hour countdown to college football's 2021 season, and Kirk Herbstreit of College GameDay is oozing with excitement.

Week 0 is the unofficial start of the 2021 college football season. It begins on Saturday with a Big Ten clash between Nebraska and Illinois at 1 p.m. ET on FOX. UConn and Fresno State then get going at 2 p.m. ET on CBSSN. ESPN will broadcast a West Coast showdown between Hawaii and UCLA at 3:30 p.m ET. Other notable games include: UTEP-New Mexico Sate, Southern Utah-San Jose State and the primetime game of the week between North Carolina Central and Alcorn State (7 p.m. ET on ESPN).

It isn't a jam-packed weekend, but who cares? Football is back, and Herbstreit is ready to get rolling. He and the rest of the College GameDay will preview Saturday's games and the entire 2021 season on Saturday at 9 a.m. ET on ESPN.

On Friday, Herbstreit sent a message to college football fans to spread excitement ahead of Saturday's big schedule.

"Hey guys, how you doing? We are back for college football," Herbstreit said in a video on Twitter. "College GameDay is this Saturday the 28th. We have a lot of games to talk about. Lot of predictions. Week 0, there's seven games total. We're going to be breaking down quite a bit of those games. We're actually at an HBCU game right now on the campus of Georgia State here in Atlanta talking about North Carolina Central taking on Alcorn State. Deion Sanders will be here, head coach of Jackson State. We have Eddie George, former Heisman winner who will also be joining us. He's now the head coach of Tennessee State. Celebration of HBCUs, but also just kind of a kickoff to the season. We're gonna be talking about the SEC, the Big Ten, the Big 12, all the chaos, everything that's been going on in the offseason we'll get into on Saturday, begins at 9 a.m. Hope to see ya. Let's get excited about this season."

Take a look.

It's hard to believe the 2021 college football season is already upon us. If you felt like it snuck up on you, you're not alone.

The extension of the NBA season and Tokyo Olympics certainly helped fill the void of no football. It also helped speed up the offseason, which is pretty rare if you're a die-hard college football fan.

Tune into College GameDay tomorrow morning at 9 p.m. ET to catch Kirk Herbstreit the rest of the crew kickoff the 2021 season.
