The 2022 NFL Draft is still several months away, but ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. has already made a bold declaration about the upcoming draft class.
While on ESPN Radio this Saturday morning, Kiper said Alabama quarterback Bryce Young would be the No. 1 pick in the 2022 draft if he was eligible. It turns out Todd McShay agreed with Kiper's take on the sophomore signal-caller.
"Mel Kiper and Todd McShay on ESPN Radio just now: Bryce Young would be guaranteed No. 1 pick if he was eligible for 2022 NFL Draft," Thor Nystrom of NBC Sports EDGE tweeted.
Most analysts have Matt Corral and Kenny Pickett ranked as the top quarterback prospects for their respective draft class. It would be interesting to see when Young would hear his name called if he was eligible for the 2022 NFL Draft, though.
Young needs to spend one more year at Alabama before he can become draft eligible. Nonetheless, he has certainly impressed NFL scouts with his play this season.
In just his second season at the collegiate level, Young has 4,322 passing yards and 43 touchdowns. The Heisman Trophy winner saved his best game for the SEC Championship, throwing for 421 yards and three touchdowns against Georgia.
As long as Young continues to show growth at the quarterback position, he'll have a great shot at being the top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
