Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral is putting up stellar numbers in his junior season with the Rebels, leading many to believe that the star signal caller will be heading to the NFL draft after this year.

While Corral's eventual departure from the program is inevitable, head coach Lane Kiffin's future as the team's leader is still in question.

Kiffin has raved about his junior quarterback all season long -- so much so that one Ole Miss analyst feels Corral's departure could mark the end of head coach's tenure in Oxford. With the star QB and several other key players leaving the program after this season, ESPN radio host Bo Bounds thinks Kiffin would be more willing to accept a new job offer elsewhere.

“I think if Lane’s offered the LSU job — and I have no idea if he will be — then I would think he would have to take it,” Bounds said during an appearance on

">The Matt McClearin Show Wednesday. “I mean, they’re losing Matt Corral, 17 starters. At Bama and Clemson and Ohio State, Georgia, I guess, a few other programs, you can usually reload pretty quick and so on and so on, right? ...So 17 starters, losing Corral — all he talks about is how special Corral is.

“And I think [Kiffin's] made a great play in that he has really talked to the fan base the last five or six weeks and he has expressed and let them know, ‘Hey, this guy’s special, and don’t take this for granted. Because this type of player just doesn’t come along.’ I don’t care where, I mean, Bama, Ohio State, so on, because he’s by far better than anything that they have.”

Kiffin's Ole Miss squad is in the midst of a solid 2021 season, losing only to then-No. 1 Alabama in Week 4.

Just last weekend, the second-year Rebels head coach took down LSU 31-17. Since the firing of Ed Orgeron earlier this month, Kiffin has been mentioned as a potential replacement for the Tigers' program.

With another big-time SEC matchup this weekend, No. 10 Ole Miss will take on the No. 18 Auburn Tigers.
