NFL Fans React To The Surprising Cardinals, Giants Trade

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has a new player to integrate into his defense - and it didn't even cost his team that much to get him.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Giants are acquiring Isaiah Simmons from the Arizona Cardinals. In exchange, the Giants are sending Arizona a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Simmons was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. But he'll be a free agent after the 2023 season so the Cardinals must have wanted to offload him before losing him for nothing.

In three NFL seasons, Simmons has 258 tackles, four interceptions, seven forced fumbles and 7.5 sacks. Decent production, but not fitting of a top 10 pick.

NFL fans were stunned by the trade with just about everyone calling it a massive steal for the New York Giants:

Isaiah Simmons was an elite athlete coming out of Clemson but struggled to find an NFL position that fit his skillset the best.

Simmons had played just about everywhere on the field (and given his 4.39 40-time speed, he's more than capable of it), but hasn't seemed to find the one where he can really emerge as an elite player.

Perhaps Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale will have better luck.
