If Aaron Rodgers had his way this offseason, he would've ended up playing for the San Francisco 49ers this year.
Rodgers wanted out of Green Bay this offseason. We knew that already, of course. However, we didn't know that San Francisco was his clear No. 1 trade destination preference.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday morning that Rodgers preferred the 49ers over every other team.
Sources say that the 49ers were Rodgers' top choice when it came to a new destination. And when the 49ers made their phone call to coach Matt LaFleur, it was done because they got word that Rodgers was more than into it.
In fact, LaFleur and Niners coach Kyle Shanahan did talk, with LaFleur quickly shutting the door on any possible trade as quickly as it was brought up. This was before San Francisco traded up to No. 3 to eventually take Trey Lance.
Rodgers will meet the team he wanted to play for on Sunday night, when the Packers take on the 49ers.
The NFL world is left to wonder what could have been...
"The 49ers beat up Aaron Rodgers every other year so maybe they made the right decision by not picking him……lol," one fan joked.
"That’s a no brainer. If Rodgers was their qb they’d win multiple SBs. I’m sure Rodgers is aware of that," another fan added.
"They winning the Super Bowl with him and that running game and defense," one fan added.
Alas, the 49ers have Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback, with Trey Lance waiting in the wings. Rodgers and the Packers, meanwhile, will attempt to win a Super Bowl for Green Bay.
