NFL World Reacts To The Bill Belichick Cash Story
From the outside looking in, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick might seem cold and rugged. Believe it or not, though, the latest story involving the six-time Super Bowl champion is quite heartwarming.
ESPN senior writer Seth Wickersham recently released a book called "It’s Better to Be Feared," which features a handful of stories involving the Patriots and how they’ve operated over the past two decades.
According to Wickersham, Belichick would give underpaid Patriots coaches wads of cash that he referred to as "green balls." Those "green balls" would sometimes be worth up to thousands of dollars.
Additionally, Belichick would write personal checks to staff members who overperformed their contracts. Wickersham said some of those checks were worth six figures.
The majority of NFL fans love this story involving Belichick. They believe it shows a side to the veteran coach that we haven't seen.
"Taking care of your coaches is one of the biggest things you can do to build your culture," an NFL fan tweeted.
"This is why he is the greatest coach of all time," another fan tweeted. "Bill is for the common man."
"Love this so much," a Patriots fan said. "Not surprised one bit! Take care of your ppl. That’s what it’s all about."
"A man of the people," another Patriots fan said.
Belichick has been with the Patriots since the 2000 season. If this story is true, that means he probably handed out a lot of "green balls" over the past two decades.
Kudos to Belichick for taking care of his staff.
