Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen made his return to the field on Sunday after missing two games with a high-ankle sprain. Unfortunately, that return for a 30-23 loss to the Rams was short-lived.

Thielen aggravated the injury and was clearly struggling throughout the game -- finishing the contest with just three catches for 40 yards.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that the Vikings wideout underwent season-ending surgery on the nagging ankle injury.

Minnesota fans were obviously not too pleased with this news. "Are you sh*tting me? Before the Packers... Ah well. Get well soon @athielen19 the @Vikings fanbase loves you," one fan wrote."Whelp…but here’s to hoping all goes well & @athielen19 is back to full strength in no time at all #skol," another added.

The loss of Thielen is a huge blow as the Vikings head into a consequential matchup against the division-leading Green Bay Packers on Sunday night.

Thielen will finish his eighth NFL season with 726 yards and 10 touchdowns. Now that the No. 2 receiver is out of the picture, K.J. Osborn will be asked to step up as a secondary option behind star wideout Justin Jefferson.

The Vikings and Packers will face off in a rivalry matchup on Sunday night at 8:20 p.m. ET.
