The Cam Newton era came to an end for the New England Patriots this Tuesday, as they released him prior to the deadline for final roster cuts.

Shortly after it was announced that Newton was released from the Patriots' roster, football fans went on social media to share an old "Play 60" commercial that featured Newton and a little kid. In the commercial, the little kid told Newton that he'll grow up to be an NFL star and eventually steal his fans.

NFL fans are now saying Mac Jones is the little kid from that commercial because he managed to dethrone Newton as the Patriots' starting quarterback.

Jones isn't actually the little kid from the "Play 60" commercial, but this advertisement has aged fairly well, which is bad news for Newton.

Here's the commercial that everyone is talking about this Tuesday:

It could take Newton several weeks, maybe even months, to find another home in the NFL. The Washington Football Team has been mentioned as a potential suitor for him, but JP Finlay of NBC Sports said a Cam Newton-Ron Rivera reunion is not happening.

Fortunately for Newton, he's just 32 years old and has shown that he can still be productive as a runner. If he can find the right fit, he could be back in the league very soon.
