After the Chiefs defeated the Bills on Sunday night, Patrick Mahomes' fiancée, Brittany Matthews, popped open a champagne bottle from her suite. It was a move that didn't sit well with NFL fans.
Several people criticized Matthews for showering fans with champagne. Others didn't really care because they thought it was a fitting reaction to the Chiefs' thrilling win.
On Monday night, Matthews responded to the criticism that she has received. She wants fans to stop judging every move she makes.
"I just wish I could do what I want without getting attacked every week," Matthews tweeted on Monday night.
Ironically enough, this tweet led to even more criticism.
"I would’ve been upset if you would’ve sprayed me with alcohol and then had to drive an hour home," one fan said. "Not everyone has a driver, not everyone drinks, not everyone enjoys being soaked with a beverage, and no one likes their QB and team’s reputation tarnished by ignorance."
Another fan asked, "How come all the other wives and girlfriends of Chiefs players weren’t spraying champagne?"
Of course, Matthews did receive some support from Kansas City fans.
"I’m so damn sick of the hate you get. They always have something to freaking say smh. People clearly didn’t see your Instagram where you said that fans literally requested it. Keep being you, Britt!! Don’t listen to the haters. Love you, your energy, and your love for the game!” one fan tweeted.
The Chiefs will host the Bengals on Sunday in the AFC Championship Game.
