Look: PETA Has A Proposal For The Baseball World

With the Atlanta Braves in the World Series, debate over the team's name and signature "Tomahawk Chop" has returned to the forefront. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, has another issue it's raising during baseball's biggest event.

PETA has taken issue with the term "bullpen," going so far as to present an alternate name for where pitchers warm up. The organization suggests renaming it "the arm barn."

"As the World Series turns into a pitching duel, PETA is pitching a proposal to the baseball world: Strikeout the word 'bullpen,' which references the holding area where terrified bulls are kept before slaughter, in favor of a more modern, animal-friendly term. PETA's suggestion? The arm barn," the release reads.

"Words matter, and baseball 'bullpens' devalue talented players and mock the misery of sensitive animals," PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman says. "PETA encourages Major League Baseball coaches, announcers, players, and fans to changeup their language and embrace the 'arm barn' instead."

This is not the first suggestion that PETA has had for the MLB this season. Earlier in the year, they proposed adding a vegan hot dog costume to the mix at Cleveland's Progressive Field, where people in "ketchup, mustard, and relish" hot dog suits race each game.

The organization has also been very aggressive in calling for college programs to retire their live animal mascots in recent years, including Georgia's Uga, and Oklahoma's Sooner Schooner, which is pulled by horses.

I certainly wouldn't expect this "bullpen issue" to stick, especially with all of the other pressing issues around baseball right now.
