With Gardner Minshew's recent trade to the Philadelphia Eagles, questions about Jalen Hurts' longterm future with the franchise immediately bubbled to the surface.

But, according to general manager Howie Roseman, Hurts isn't too concerned about the incoming backup gunning for his QB1 position.

“He’s great,” Roseman said, per The Philadelphia Inquirer. “Jalen’s all about the team, and he’s very confident in his ability and very secure in where he stands with all of us.”

Fulfilling his long-expected role, Hurts was officially named the team's starter over Minshew and veteran QB Joe Flacco earlier this week.

Roseman said he had a chance to speak with Hurts and Flacco before acquiring the former Jaguars quarterback.

“Everybody knows our priority on quarterbacks,” Roseman said. “We had a chance to talk to Jalen and to Joe Flacco, too, and tell them that we thought it was an opportunity to get a good player, a good person at an important position. Certainly, Jalen had an excellent preseason and continued to get better, and Joe was really impressive during the preseason and during camp as a whole. I think that in 15 of the last 16 years here in Philly, we’ve carried three quarterbacks, so I don’t think it’s unusual for us.

“When you look at the 17-game schedule and everything that’s kind of going on in the world, we thought it was a good opportunity for our football team to improve.”

After taking over the Eagles' starting job late last season, the QB1 position is now Hurts' to lose. But if he does struggle, he has a solid backup unit in Minshew and Flacco.

The second-year quarterback will lead his team in a Week 1 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday.
