Roger Goodell Reacts To Lawsuit From Former NFL Network Reporter Jim Trotter
The Jim Trotter lawsuit was the talk of the football world on Tuesday after the esteemed former NFL Network reporter filed claims against the league for racial discrimination.
Trotter alleges he was let go of by the NFL after publicly challenging commissioner Roger Goodell on the lack of Black employees in senior management positions at NFL Media.
On Wednesday, Goodell reportedly answered to that. Saying via ESPN's Kimberley A. Martin: "I have a lot of respect for Jim. From my standpoint … a lot of our media business is going [through] changes … We dispute, obviously, his claims. … We feel strongly about the progress we're making."
Included in Trotter's suit were some damning quotes attributed to Bills owner Terry Pegula and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Alleging that Pegula once said, "If the Black players don't like it here, they should go back to Africa and see how bad it is." And that Jones responded to one of his questions by saying, "If Blacks feel some kind of way, they should buy their own team and hire who they want to hire."
"The NFL has claimed it wants to be held accountable regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion. I tried to do so, and it cost me my job," Trotter said in a statement. "I'm filing this lawsuit because I can't complain about things that are wrong if I'm unwilling to fight for what is right."
Trotter is being represented by the same law firm that represented former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores during his litigation.
