Early Friday morning a report emerged suggesting Russell Wilson wanted Pete Carroll fired before he was traded from the Seattle Seahawks.

According to a report from The Athletic, Wilson allegedly asked Seahawks ownership to fire Carroll and general manager John Schneider. The hope was that the team would then hire Sean Paton to be the new coach.

Wilson wasted no time responding to the report. He made it clear he never wanted Carroll fired

"I love Pete and he was a father figure to me and John believed in me and drafted me as well," he said. "I never wanted them fired. All any of us wanted was to win. l’ll always have respect for them and love for Seattle."

Needless to say, the football world was taken by the news. Some don't believe Wilson.

"This bugs me because it’s not that abnormal for a ‘superstar’ athlete to be at a crossroads with organizational leadership - just don’t lie about it You’re up tweeting at 7am, you 100% wanted them gone…" one fan said.

"You gotta give it to Russ man.. his name has been dragged through the mud for a year and dude has stayed positive through it all," another fan said.

Do you think Wilson wanted Carroll fired?
