For the first time since her departure from ESPN, Sage Steele has spoken out about "why" she decided to leave the network she had called home for over 15 years.

Taking to X, Steele retweeted a post from OutKick analyzing the decision on the grounds of her wanting to defend her free speech. In a pair of posts on X, Steele said that they basically hit the nail on the head:

"2 quick things. First....I haven't read much of what's been written over the last 24 hours, but my family sent this article to me and I'm blown away. It perfectly describes my "why"... which has ALWAYS been SO much bigger than me," she wrote.

"(2/2) Secondly, for those commenting on my use of #SteeleStrong ... I've been using that hashtag for more than 5 years...ever since NFL Films did this story on my family. I repost it once a year around my parents' anniversary (almost 52 yrs) bc the adversity that they continue to overcome is much bigger than anything I have faced. They are my biggest 'why.'"

So now we have Sage Steele's take on the matter.

It will be interesting to see where she goes from here. If she's still interested in media or sports broadcasting jobs there are bound to be outlets who will bring her on.
