Sports World Reacts To Simone Biles' Honest Admission
Just a few months ago, the world watched as United States gymnastics star Simone Biles had her 2020 Summer Olympics derailed.
Perhaps the greatest Olympic gymnast in history, Biles went through what she called the "twisties." Earlier this morning, she made an appearance on TODAY where she admitted she's still "scared" to do gymnastics.
"I love this sport so much, but it's hard, I'm sorry," she said. "And I don't think people understand the magnitude of what I go through, but for so many years, to go through everything that I've gone through, and put on a front, I'm proud of myself, and I'm happy that I can be a leader for the survivors and bring courage to everyone speaking up. So I'm happy to be a voice for them, but we go through our own things. It's hard, but with the twisting...it will come back, but I'm still scared to do gymnastics."
After her appearance on the show, fans rallied around her on social media.
"You a gahdamn star
If I’ve learned anything over these past few months, it’s that it’s ok to take a step back to take care of yourself. Happy to be partnering w @getcerebral as a Chief Impact Officer to help break the stigma+expand access to mental health resources. #ItsOkToNotBeOk#Cerebralpartner

">@Simone_Biles," she said. "Your vulnerability shines strong. SO grateful you continue to shed light on #mentalhealth. Therapy changed my life and it’s important to seek help to navigate, understand the range of feelings, experiences you have."
"Strongest human I know. I love you SB," someone else said.
Hopefully Biles will be able to overcome the twisties and get back to doing what she loves in the near future.
