On Wednesday night, Alabama freshman Brandon Miller took the court amidst heavy controversy.

While he doesn't believe Miller should have been on the court last night, Stephen A. Smith applauded the young guard's ability to silence the noise and put on an incredible performance.

Miller finished last night's game with 41 points, including a game-tying layup at the end of regulation and a game-winning shot in overtime to beat the South Carolina Gamecocks.

"I will applaud Brandon Miller the basketball player," Smith said on Thursday's episode of First Take. "To endure what he was enduring last night and to go out there as a freshman and put on that show on the road, absolutely showed a level of mental toughness that I believe NBA scouts will look at."

While Smith recognizes Miller's "mental toughness," he says he should "have trouble sleeping at night" due to his alleged involvement in last month's tragedy.

Miller was mentioned in a police testimony that connected him to the Darius Miles murder case that occurred last month. Miles allegedly texted the freshman guard to bring the gun that was used to kill 23-year-old woman Jamea Jonae Harris.

Miller is facing no criminal charges, and seemingly no punishment from the Alabama basketball program.
