Streamer xQc Just Signed A Contract For More Money Than LeBron James, Patrick Mahomes
In yet another sign of the rising power that content streaming has, former Esports star turned Twitch streamer Felix Lengyel, known by his handle as "xQc," has just signed a contract that will pay him more money per year than two of the top athletes in the world.
On Friday, multiple outlets reported that xQc signed a two-year contract with the streaming platform Kick worth $100 million. At $50 million per year, he will make more money per year than LeBron James or Patrick Mahomes.
Last year LeBron signed a two-year, $97.1 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers for what was then the largest contract in NBA history.
Meanwhile, Mahomes - a two-time Super Bowl champion - currently makes just under $42 million per year on the 10-year, $503 million contract he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 20
xQc rose to prominence in the Esports team playing the video game Overwatch and moved to content streaming full-time after leaving the competitive scene. He has spent the last few years streaming on Twitch and has been the platform's most-viewed streamer in each of the past three years.
Kick, meanwhile, is an upstart streaming platform that is relatively new to the scene but has made a name for itself with some very high-profile (and controversial) big-money signings.
A move like this has the potential to alter the balance of power among all streaming platforms across the globe.
