Travis Kelce Admits He's 'Underpaid' By The Chiefs
There's a case to be made that Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce is among the best pure pass catchers in the NFL and should be paid like a top wide receiver rather than a tight end.
Kelce himself certainly seems to agree with the idea.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Kelce revealed that his managers and agents have all told him that he's underpaid by the Chiefs.
“My managers and agents love to tell me how underpaid I am ,” Kelce said. “Any time I talk about wanting more money, they’re just like, ‘Why don’t you go to the Chiefs and ask them?’”
Kelce said that when he saw Tyreek Hill get $30 million per year after being traded from the Chiefs to the Miami Dolphins, he said that the idea of hitting the free market "looks like fun." But he ultimately feels that it's more fun to stay where he is and win than go somewhere else for more money.
“When I saw Tyreek go and get 30 [million] a year, in the back of my head, I was like, man, that’s two to three times what I’m making right now,” Kelce said. “I’m like, the free market looks like fun until you go somewhere and you don’t win. I love winning. I love the situation I’m in.”
The money may not be pouring into Kelce's wallet like it is for Tyreek Hill, but the wins certainly are.
Kelce's Chiefs have reached five straight AFC Championship Games and appeared in three Super Bowls, winning two.
