Multiple People Injured In Christmas Shooting At U.S. Airport

Multiple people were reportedly injured in a Christmas Day shooting at a major U.S. airport on Wednesday.

Christmas Day can be a surprisingly busy travel day across the United States. Many who split time with family and friends jet across the country. The airport is surely busier on the days leading up to - and after - the holiday, but Christmas Day itself can still be a rather busy day inside of the airport.

Tragically, a Christmas Day shooting broke out at a major U.S. airport on Wednesday, leaving three people injured.

The shooting happened at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix. It reportedly happened close to 10 p.m. local time.

The shooting reportedly happened at an airport restaurant that is outside of the security checkpoints. It reportedly happened in Terminal 4 of the airport.

The Associated Press had more:

An adult female and two adult males were shot, leaving the female with injuries police describe as a life-threatening. The two men were in stable condition and expected to survive, police said in a statement. The man hospitalized with at least one stab wound was in stable condition.

The group of people all knew each other and had a physical fight that led to one of them to pull a gun, police said.

“I do believe that this was a family dispute that escalated,” Phoenix police Sgt. Mayra Reeson told reporters.

Following the shooting, a man and a girl were reportedly detained in a nearby garage. Police have yet to release any information on possible charges for those involved.

The incident remains under investigation.

“Of course this was scary, this was Christmas evening, everybody’s trying to get home,” Reeson added.

Our thoughts are with everyone involved. Violence is always scary, but it's especially cruel around the holidays.
