Taylor Swift Called Out For 'Selfish' Reaction To Selena Gomez's Engagement
Just like millions of other people in the country, Taylor Swift reacted to Selena Gomez's engagement post on Instagram.
Gomez revealed on Wednesday night that she's engaged to Benny Blanco. She shared the news in pretty cool fashion, posting a photo of her engagement ring. Shortly after that post went live, Swift commented, "yes I will be the flower girl." As you'd expect, that reply from the Grammy Award winner went viral in a matter of minutes, receiving over 1.5 million likes.
While most of Swift's fans loved her response to Gomez's engagement, there's definitely some people who thought she stole the spotlight with her remark about being a flower girl. Naturally, that led to people dissing the "Fortnight" singer.
"YOU’RE THIRTY FOUR YEARS OLD," one person tweeted.
Another person said, "Am I the only one that thinks making this about herself is a bit much?
"She is sending news to her boyfriend..... better man up dude," a third person wrote.
"Oh yeah she’s ruining the whole wedding," a fourth person declared.
Swift has not addressed the backlash she's receiving online. It doesn't seem like her response came from a bad place, especially since she's known Gomez for such a long time.
Hopefully, those frustrated with Swift will ease up on their criticism.
As for Swift's relationship status, she should eventually have the chance to celebrate an engagement of her own. There were some rumors earlier this NFL season that she got "secretly engaged" to Travis Kelce, but they were debunked.
"It’s not true and the recent erratic and unfounded speculation on this couple is just proving that media and overzealous fans do not know what’s going on with them and shouldn’t make wild assumptions based on zero facts," a source for TMZ said. "Two days ago everyone had decided they were broken up, now they’re allegedly secretly engaged? It’s whiplash-inducing."
Swift, who just wrapped up her Eras Tour, is expected to spend the next few weeks unwinding with friends and families. If we had to guess, she'll make an appearance at a couple of Kansas City Chiefs games.
