Week 2 of the new XFL season offered plenty of drama and offensive action (except for the New York Guardians). We saw the DC Defenders continue their dominance against the Guardians, the Seattle Dragons win their home opener over the Tampa Bay Vipers, the Dallas Renegades win a comeback against the LA Wildcats, and the Houston Roughnecks handle their business against the St. Louis Battlehawks.

But only one player from the eight franchises could be named XFL Player of the Week. After a Twitter poll conducted by the fledgling league earlier in the week, we now know who took home the honor in Week 2.

On Wednesday, Roughnecks WR Cam Phillips was named XFL Week 2 Star of the Week. Phillips caught eight passes for 63 yards and three touchdowns from PJ Walker in Houston's 28-24 win over St. Louis.

The former All-ACC wideout from Virginia Tech sits at fourth in receiving yards.

Phillips went undrafted out of Virginia Tech in 2018, signing with the Buffalo Bills but never seeing the field. He was released before the 2019 season and spent the NFL season watching from home.

But when the XFL came calling, Phillips saw his chance and took it.

If he continues to thrive for Houston, he could find himself with another shot at the NFL before long.

Will Cam Phillips get an NFL contract for next season?
