John Lynch Makes His Thoughts On Nick Bosa's Absence Very Clear
The San Francisco 49ers continue to hold training camp without Nick Bosa, who hasn't reported amid ongoing negotiations for a new deal.
On Monday, 49ers general manager John Lynch addressed the Defensive Player of the Year's absence. While he wishes Bosa was currently with the team, he's confident they'll get a deal done.
"We have to strike the right mix of urgency," Lynch told reporters, via NBC Sports. "I don’t like this. I don't like not having one of our best players here. We've got a really good track record that I'm proud of as a group of having our players in, but I also understand it. And understand we’re going to have to exhibit some patience and understand that ultimately this whole thing will work out."
Bosa enters the final season of his rookie deal after collecting an NFL-high 18.5 sacks last season. The 25-year-old has a strong case to exceed recent mega deals given to fellow star edge rushers Aaron Donald and T.J. Watt.
Currently under contract on a fifth-year option, Bosa is subject to daily fines for not reporting. However, Lynch indicated that they don't intend on penalizing him.
"I don't think that's really necessary," Lynch said, via ESPN's Nick Wagoner. "That's not going to get him in here. We're both striving for the same thing, so we'll focus on that."
Lynch and the 49ers are eager to welcome back Bosa, but he's not concerned about the star falling behind in summer preparation. Bosa likely won't report until signing a lucrative long-term extension.
